RYA Training Courses

The RYA Competent Crew course is designed for beginners and those who would like to become active crew rather than just passengers. It offers the chance to live aboard and really start to understand the nature of sailing. The course is hands on, without the crew the sails will not be raised and the boat will remain in harbour.

By the end of the course the basics will be mastered: steering, handling sails, keeping a lookout, rowing a dinghy and assisting in all the other day to day activities on board. A number of harbours will have been visited and coastline admired.

The RYA Day Skipper course is designed for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and basic navigation skills. It teaches how to skipper short passages with an instructor on hand to give advice and encouragement, while ensuring safety. It allows candidates to experience being in charge, taking credit when all goes well and being responsible when it does not.

Before embarking on this course, it is worth taking the RYA Day Skipper shorebased course. Then, after five days and four nights aboard Morwenna successful Day Skippers will have sailed at least 100 miles and earned an internationally recognised tidal qualification.

We are now based in Majorca but will continue to offer this course. If you have any interest in participating please contact us by email at info@traditional-sailing.com or by calling 03333 440 738.
